Celebrating the birth of a BEAUTIFUL litter
We are proud to say that Lilly and Ivan now have a beautiful litter of puppies, all strong and healthy! There are nine puppies in all: four males and five females! Thanks for celebrating with us. Lilly is doing well and is a great mother. We are frankly amazed at the strong mothering instinct present! Lilly won’t leave her puppies except for potty breaks!

All of my friends have been amazed
at the short gestation period of dogs! The gestation period of a dog is only 63 days long! I am posting an article I have found helpful.

It’s amazing how much a pet adds to our daily lives. I know that Lilly, our Golden Retriever girl, is definitely a big part of our lives. She camps, swims, floats on a raft, goes for walks, lays with her head on my lap when she or I need a snuggle, and provides company! You will never be lonely when you own a Golden Retriever or other breed of dog!
I remember when my golden retriever Ginger passed away at the age of 12. I was devastated. Once we decided that we really missed the joys of having a dog constantly at our side, we jumped right in and went on a search for the perfect Golden. As a matter of fact, Chris, our son, helped search!
We went and visited several breeders before we decided on our current Golden Retriever. We purchased her on Memorial Day weekend and within a week of picking her up, took her on her first camping trip to Lake Lanier. While there, she was invited to meet our friends who lived nearby! We even had to commute to her Puppy 101 class from camping! She learned to swim and ride on a raft. She learned to take boat rides and have fun with her newfound dog friends! She kept us very amused!

Exercise for your Golden Retriever
Do you enjoy exercise? I know I do. One of the best parts of my day is walking my golden retriever through the neighborhood. On most days, we can cover at least two and one half miles to a mile on busier days. On weekends, you can find us walking the monastery trail, the Arabia Mountain trails, or walking through the woods in Newton County.
Since my golden retriever is pregnant and has only one and a half weeks left until her puppies are due, I am giving smaller amounts of exercise based on the advice of my veterinarian. She still needs to keep her abdominal and other muscles fit for her upcoming whelping day. Also, I am sure she will want to get back to her activity level after she finishes weaning her pups.
Paying attention to her energy level, the distance to cover, her overall attitude, plus the temperature of the day is of the utmost importance. Today, we covered a mile but I did notice that she was seeking out shade earlier , even though the temp was in the sixties. This week, we will be walking shorter distances and at cooler temperatures!
